A Global Symbol of Hope
A response to the 2024 D&AD brief for the Non-Fossil Fuel Treaty, this campaign combines the universal language of hands with the dove—an emblem of peace and hope. "Wings for the World" encourages global unity, inspiring collective action in the fight against fossil fuels.
My Process
Brief
The world struggles to find a universally understood symbol that transcends language barriers and captures the global imagination for climate action.
Insight
Hands are a universal tool for communication, connection, and creation, recognized and understood by all people across the globe.
Solution
Wings for the World combines hands with the dove, a globally recognized symbol of hope, to create a powerful, actionable emblem encouraging global unity in the fight against fossil fuels.
To help encourage our campaigns message, countries that support the treaty would implement a new label onto products around the world. Products would include a label if they were created without the use of fossil fuels. This symbol would be found next to the recycling logo and help those supporting the cause avoid products using fossil fuels.
The Final Symbol
The symbol is broken down into three aspects, referencingthe power of the number three in the fight for a fossil freefuture and also paying homage to the recycling symbol whichis broken into three separate sections.
Crafting a Universal Symbol
Crafting a symbol that is universally understood and serves as a beacon of hope for the cause required extensive ideation. I drew inspiration from diverse global symbols to create a cohesive emblem that effectively conveys our message.
Sketching
To kick off this project, I began by sketching various symbols in my notebook that could inspire the final design. This process not only fueled my creativity but also provided a visual reference to guide my next steps and explore different directions for the project.
Development
Here are some further developments and sketches I worked on. These designs were much more impactful compared to the earlier concepts. A key part of this stage was simplifying the more complex designs—figuring out how to convey the same message with fewer elements.
Progress
This concept showed the most potential, so I decided to make it my primary direction. After sharing it with both designers and non-designers, the feedback was overwhelmingly positive. The goal became to refine the symbol further and make it more versatile. The design combines hands—a universal tool for communication, connection, and creation—with the wings of a dove, a globally recognized symbol of hope.
